Africa has sons that have blossomed to become legends of basketball in the big leagues across the world. A lot of them far away from homes like the long-aged voyage of no return across the oceans and the deep blue seas. Many first & second generation Africans in the NBA, the European Leagues, South America and Asian leagues fly the flags of countries they see as home, some a better opportunity for success others still undecided.
Imagine an era-less African national basketball team fully armed with all her arsenal of talents taking on the world and slugging for glory as the best basketball playing nation on the continent. We would never know if Angola would have as many African Championships or Senegal dominate more than they did or even Nigeria boast of more than one FIBA Afrobasket title.
Welcome to the exploration journey. Let’s go on a mind’s journey to some of the best African national team lineups that never were, and some existed in part. You may want to strap on your seat belt because we will be journeying back into time.
